Fluo-8, AM是最常用的檢測細胞內鈣離子濃度的熒光探針之一。它穿透細胞膜進入細胞后被細胞內的酯酶剪切形成Fluo-8，從而被滯留在細胞內，Fluo-8若以游離配體形式存在時幾乎是非熒光性的，但是當它與細胞內鈣離子結合后可以產生較強的熒光，最大激發波長為490nm，最大發射波長為514nm。可以使用激光共聚焦顯微鏡或流式細胞儀檢測細胞內鈣離子濃度的變化
